Commentary by Hugh Hansen
I am convinced by any overarching direction, image, or strategy to achieve an elected majority anymore. I think the best current advice is to run people who mostly think and talk like their districts for House seats, while favoring a little more moderation for Senate candidates where national attention can make more of a difference in outside money.
Fear of/hope for that 51st Senate seat will send a lot more out-of-state money to Maine, North Carolina, and Ohio than will Michigan's 7th District congressional race. The real future work needs to be finding ways to make the primaries look more like the general.
